I used to be on several antidepressants. The doctor kept switching to try and get the right effect. It really felt like a crapshoot. What was bizarre to me at the time was how easy it was to start taking them. The doctor didn't ask me any questions about my life circumstances. I told her I was moody and she wrote me a prescription. I had more suicidal thoughts on medications than off of them. I started to realize that I only felt better a few months after each new med and once I was used to it, I needed to switch because I felt depressed again. I didn't feel like myself either. When I was taking Zoloft I was constantly having doubts about my relationship with God. I think meds dulled my spiritual senses. I got a book from the library by a man with the last name Breggin called Your Drug May Be Your Problem. It was very helpful. I had a hard time getting a doctor to be willing to help me get off the meds once I decided to. I had to go to a nutritionist. Since stopping them I have had my ups and downs but prayer, the bible, and a commitment to keep moving forward have helped me through each trial. I have found that herbs help without all the side effects. So does Same(pronounced "Sammy") and L-Glutamine, also 5HTP, St. Johns Wort, and most important a diet change can make a world of difference.
I found that depression for me was a mindset. I needed my mind to be renewed. I read the bible and pray and slowly I am learning to think a better way.

It seems to me that a very good sign of a person being mentally stable is the manifestation, on a regular basis, of wit. A sense of humor, as it were.

Perhaps I was wrong. Wow! I can actually admit this!

Luckily I have no prescription to reach for, to help me cope, nor do I need a drink.

Thanks for mutton.

[...] America the doped! We may have found why Americans sit on their rear-ends while Iceland, France, Greece, etc. etc. etc., are standing up to the abuses of their government and the bankers. We’re pumped full of mind control chemicals, courtesy of the medical establishment which has profited so handsomely from the same US Government that needs us to be kept sedated! Aldous Huxley, in his book “Brave New World” conceived of the lower classes kept permanently in a state of drug-induced stupor, to keep them controlled. http://www.psychiatricdrugs.net/health-risks-of-psychiatric-drugs.html [...]

More should be mentioned about the most dangerous of them all - the SSRI anti-depressants. These should be banned outright, but big Pharma would cry foul if the truth ever got out about drugs like Celexa and Prozac. Read Dr. Peter Breggins works on the anti-depressants.

Psychiatric Drugs: Chemical Warfare on Humans
http://www.newstarget.com/011353.html
New psychiatric drugs have directly contributed to an alarming new epidemic of drug-induced mental illness. The very drugs prescribed by physicians to stabilize mental disorders in fact are inducing pathological changes in brain chemistry and triggering suicide, manic and psychotic episodes, convulsions, violence, diabetes, pancreatic failure, metabolic diseases, and premature death.
